Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular program wrapping up—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. He is striving to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
