Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.

He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.

The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Public Response

Community members assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.

Remembering the Soldier

“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to help others.”

Service arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Government Revisions

Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The incident led the government to pause asylum applications and halt granting entry permits to owners of travel documents.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Memory of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had bravery,” he told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
