Former Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 38 Patients
Prosecutors have announced that a ex- physician stands accused of performing assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
Details of the Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous sexual offences – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.
One senior CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Investigation
The charges follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.
Breakdown of Charges
Prosecutors outline the 45 charges comprise:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
