Followers Call for Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are calling for that a individual who jumped a barricade and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records showed that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Safety
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said another comment on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Many of attendees had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected friendship between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful movie of 2024 in the UK, and received 10 award recognitions, earning several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
