Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Get Together for Palestine Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The track was produced following a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists featured on Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the music world. All took part in the September show, which managed to collect a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The track blends a combination of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the campaign have stated that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These proceeds will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for whatever we can get. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”
The track is launching this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
